Community members collaborate to create critical materials for the Cantonese Diaspora.
We highlight two of our projects here.
The Chinatown Project
The goal of this project is to promote a better understanding of the Cantonese Diaspora by documenting the history of Chinese immigration and the experiences of young people who have grown up in or near particular Chinatowns. We hope that such an understanding can help connect generations of Cantonese Americans and demystify Chinatowns for the general public. The materials created will be used to create a textbook for Cantonese learning.
We’ll start by focusing on these Chinatowns in North America: Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Oakland, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto. We’ve completed our first video for L.A. Chinatown.
